This release is mainly a maintenance release, but it also contains fixes that may be important for some of our users. Trust any certificate The most important change is that we allow to connect to any secured IMAP server, even if its certificate is invalid. This option is only available in “New from Account”. If an invalidate certificate is detected (like the one of Dreamhost, for example), an additional button can be clicked to trust the invalid certificate: When the invalid certificate is trusted, a warning is displayed and the probing process can be started again: Care should be taking before using this option. Please verify if the account details are correct and if your Email provider is deliberately not providing a valid certificate. Outlook We do have a number of reported bugs that we are trying to pin down right now. But essentially, with this release, SharedSafe is now complete for the upcoming public beta.

Besides some minor bug fixes, we built in two new usability features: More Export Options We integrated the SendTo Explorer context menu into the SharedSafe’s export dialog: Now, you can export Safe Keys to your favorite Mail client and to any other service that supports the Explorer’s SendTo menu. For example, if you have installed Skype and export to it, Skype will then ask you to whom you want to send the Safe Key. And of course, SharedSafe remembers the preferred selection. QUOTA Support For IMAP servers that support the QUOTA extension, SharedSafe reads the storage quota and presents it in the Linked Folder’s context menu. You can now clearly see how much space is left on the Safe: Outlook These two small features were the last ones we planned before the Public Beta release. Next we will fix bugs and a number of smaller usability problems. Additionally, we will prepare the website and some legal details for the Public Beta. I personally plan for a small vacation. SharedSafe is now in development for over two years, and it’s time for me to take a few days off before we launch to the public. We hope you like this new release, thank you all for the feedback and please continue in supporting us!

This is a small release, mainly to get a bug fix out of the door. Missing Linked Folders One of our testers deleted a Linked Folder, which caused SharedSafe to refuse to start up. And consequentially, the Configuration tool could not be started. With this update, SharedSafe continues to synchronize the remaining Linked Folders, but displays an error message: This is only a temporary solution, but should be fine as long have we have no better one. Now, to fix this error, either - Recreate the missing Linked folder and restart the Synchronization by selecting “Stop Synchronization” and “Start Synchronization” afterwards.
- Delete the Linked Folder in the Configuration tool and apply the configuration.
Email Probing Also, we enhanced Email Probing by querying the ISPDB database. This should speed up the Email Probing process and also should broaden the set of Email addresses that SharedSafe can use to locate the IMAP server.

Move Detection The rename detection that we had implemented for the previous version was not covering file moves. So we had to implement a separate move detector. Starting with this version, files that are moved to and from sub directories are detected, and upload times are expected to decrease significantly for these file operations. Resynchronization For the paranoid user, we made an internal mechanism available that rescans the local file system and – in future versions – resynchronizes all meta data from the Safe. We call that option “Verify Integrity and Synchronize”. For every Linked folder, you can start the Linked Folder verification process from the SharedSafe menu. This is also the first step to reimplement a manual synchronization option (more about this in future updates). Offline Mode Also, one small new feature in this version is an Offline mode. An Offline operation was already implemented, but had to be triggered from the download progress bar in the recent changes window. We decided to make this feature more accessible. Now you can disable SharedSafe’s live synchronization by using “Stop Live Synchronization” from the Tray menu. The offline mode is indicated by a gray SharedSafe tray icon and the tooltip shows the text “SharedSafe is offline”. Outlook There are not so many important items left on our todo list for the Public Beta, so if you think you need some very specific feature, please go to the Forum or click the Feedback button to the right. We’d love to hear from our users.
